Admission Requirements

For Our Online and Hybrid Programs

Interested in applying to New England College? We aim to make the process as straightforward and convenient as possible. All applicants to NEC benefit from the following:

Undergraduate Application Requirements

To apply to one of our associate or bachelor’s degree programs (excluding the RN to BSN program), applicants must provide the following:
  • A completed NEC application, including self-reported GPA
  • Final official high school/GED transcript (required before enrollment, not with your application)
We do not require SAT or ACT scores, but you have the option to submit them as additional support for your application.
Undergraduate Application Requirements
Transfer Students
Transfer students should also include official transcripts for any previous college courses taken.
We will only consider:
  • Classes taken at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university (or international equivalent) in which you earned a grade of at least C- (1.7 GPA)
  • College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests
  • Approved U.S. military training courses
We will evaluate up to 90 credits of previous coursework for transfer. To graduate from an NEC associate degree program, you need to earn at least 16 credits with us. To graduate from one of our bachelor’s programs, you need to earn at least 30 credits with us.
Undergraduate Application Requirements
International Undergraduate Students
International applicants to undergraduate degree programs must have the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma, verified by a credentialing organization such as World Educational Services (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE). Students for whom English is not a native language must also pass an English language proficiency exam.

International undergraduate applicants must provide the following materials:
  • Completed application form
  • Copy of passport and a copy of their proof of citizenship, if applicable
  • Declaration of finances
  • Provisional certificate and consolidated marks (evaluated by a credential organization)
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended

Online Graduate Application Requirements

To apply to one of our online master’s degree or graduate-level certificate programs, applicants must provide the following materials:

For undergraduate coursework, we require a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. Applicants who earned a lower GPA may be considered for admission if they can provide proof of professional experience that demonstrates a capability to succeed in their chosen program.
Please note that each individual program may have additional requirements for admission—for example, our MFA programs may have portfolio or writing sample requirements. Please contact us for more details.

Online Graduate Application Requirements
International Graduate Students
International applicants to our master’s degree programs must have the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree, verified through a credentialing organization such as such as World Educational Services (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE).

Applicants must submit the following materials:
  • A completed application form
  • A current resume
  • Provisional certificate and consolidated marks evaluated by credential organization (or an official transcript of degree earned in the U.S.)
  • Declaration of finances
  • Copy of I-20 form
In addition, students for whom English is not a native language must pass an English language proficiency exam (or provide proof that they completed their undergraduate education at an English-speaking institution). Minimum accepted scores are:
  • TOEFL: 61
  • PTE: 43
  • IELTS: 5.5
  • Duolingo: 90

Military Student Admissions

As a military-friendly school, NEC welcomes students from the U.S. Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, National Guard and Reserves who want to earn a degree with us.
Military Student Admissions
Apply to NEC Military
To apply to NEC, military students, veterans and their qualifying dependents should:
  • Submit academic materials as required by their undergraduate or graduate program (see previous sections)
  • Complete an application for veteran benefits directly from the Veterans Administration at www.benefits.va.gov
  • Submit a copy of one of the following to NEC to confirm their eligibility for military benefits:
  • DD form 214 – Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty
  • DD form 2384 – Notice of Basic Eligibility for Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGBI-SR) service members
  • Arrange for military transcripts, if applicable, to be sent to NEC by requesting them from either:
