As a graduate of NEC’s program, you will be able to demonstrate competence in the following InTASC standards:

The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.

The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards.

The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

Concentration Options

As an NEC CAGS student, you can declare a concentration in one of five areas or choose to pursue licensure as a principal or superintendent.

Licensure areas include:
  • School Principal
  • School Superintendent
Please note:
Please note that the School Principal and School Superintendent licensure programs require you to complete a greater number of courses than the concentration options.

Courses and Curriculum

To complete the online CAGS, you will take 20 credits in the program core plus 12 credits of electives in your concentration area (32 credits total). If you choose the School Principal licensure prep program, you will take a total of 40-46 credits depending on the state in which you plan to work. If you pursue the School Superintendent licensure program, you will complete
a total of 46 credits.
